ZFS Riga is a grain storage facility and 55-million gallon per year corn processing plant in Riga Township, MI, just outside the Village of Blissfield. The plant was built in 2007 and purchased by ZFS Riga, LLC, an affiliate of Zeeland Farm Services, Inc., in July of 2024. The plant has been idle since 2019.
ZFS Riga is initially rehabilitating the grain receiving, storage and shipping areas of the site. It is also evaluating the physical condition of the corn processing facility and working to see if it can assemble a business plan that can successfully compete long-term in today’s competitive corn processing industry.
Prior to being shut down, the ZFS Riga plant processed about 19 million bushels of corn each year, most of which was sourced from within a 75-mile radius of the plant, providing a steady local market for area corn growers. In addition to the ethanol production, the plant was capable of annually producing 145,000 tons of dried distillers grains with soluables, a nutrient-rich feed supply for livestock producers in the region. Other valuable co-products include corn oil and CO2.
